CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR

One week to go….Yes, it’s next Sunday and we have such a great schedule for you this year. We open our doors at 11.00am and for the early bird shoppers looking to get those freshly baked goods for their afternoon tea or first to find a gem amongst the variety of tables this year. You know what they say “the early bird catches the worm”. Our stage will come to life from 12 noon with our live acts singing, first is our Church Choir. Next we will see the Adamstown N.S. children lighting up the stage at 12.35. We have a local young singer & performer who will take the stage around 1.15pm and finally a group of young traditional Irish musicians performing on stage around 1.45pm.  Yes to add to all that we have Santa arriving at Santa’s Grotto at 1.00pm with Mrs Claus. We will have Santa’s Letter Box and Santa’s elves there to help you post them. We will have “guess the weight of the cake”, so don’t miss out on taking a guess to win a beautiful homemade Christmas cake. Raffle winners will be picked on stage from 3pm – 4pm, so if you have bought a ticket, why not join us for a warm cuppa and soak up the atmosphere. Tickets still on sale €5 for one or 3 for €10.  We will have tea & sandwiches available and if anyone would like to donate any baked goods in the morning we would be delighted as all proceeds go to the Community Centre.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported us by making donations and turning up on the day for the walk and cake sale. On Wed Nov 6th the Fashion Extravaganza  took place in White’s Hotel organised by Wexford I.C.A. Federation Committee. Ann Ryan represented our guild on the Catwalk, modelling some fabulous style from Lulu Boutique, New Ross, owned by our own parishioner Louise Furlong. Ladies, treat yourself to a new outfit for Christmas by paying a visit to Lulu’s shop, guaranteeing you won’t come away empty handed and you will be supporting a local business. Our ladies will be busy catering for The Christmas Craft Fair on Sunday Dec 1st. If anyone in the parish would like to donate some confectionery for the teas, it would be greatly appreciated. The invitations for the Senior Citizens Christmas Party are being distributed this weekend. If you are eligible and have not received an invitation PLEASE contact any I.C.A. member.

STRANGE – But True!    (Ireland’s Own)

Did you know that Ireland was once an important centre for fine glove making?  In the 18th century Lord Clare, in a letter to a friend in Paris, said he would bring back with him,

‘several dozen pairs of the best Limerick gloves’

Amazingly, the demand was so great that Limerick couldn’t supply all the gloves needed and had to be assisted by Cork.

In July 1906 an exhibition was held in Limerick, with a demonstration of glove making by the Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction. Later, in October, Lord Barrymore began a glove making school in Tipperary which employed thirty girls.

A THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK – Celebrating our Dead

We are  not powerless in the face of the loss of those we love.

Our prayers and our acts of remembrance assist our loved ones on their journey back to God. November each year reminds us to  remember our dead. The kindness and friendship of those who loved us, and who are now with God, had a great influence on our lives. We share that love with others and our love may yet be passed on to generations yet unborn.

WISDOM

“ A friend is one to whom one may pour out all the contents of one’s heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that the  gentlest of hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping and with a breadth of kindness blow the rest away”

WE REMEMBER AND PRAY FOR THE FOLLOWING WHO HAVE DIED SINCE LAST NOVEMBER.

John O’Neill, Glenour.

Monica Murphy, Beaufield (née Fortune, Doononey.

Michael Connors, Tramore & The Hill, Adamstown

REFLECTION – The Dead

Their smile is in the summer sky

Their grace is in the breeze.

Their memories whisper in the grass

Their calm is in the trees.

Their light is in the winter snow

Their tears are in the rain.

Their merriment runs in the brook

Their laughter is in the lane.

Their gentleness is in the flowers

They sigh in autumn leaves.

They do  not leave, they are not gone,

Tis only we who grieve.

THURSDAY NIGHT CARD GAME

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the weekly Card Game had to be cancelled on Thursday night last. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The Card Game will resume on Thursday 28th November at 8pm.

A SMILE –

Three small boys were bragging about their fathers.

The first boy said, “My dad writes a few short lines on a piece of paper, calls it a poem and gets €20 for it”

“My dad,” said the second, “makes some dots on a piece of paper, calls it a song, and gets €45 for it.

“That’s nothing,” declared the third boy. “My father writes a sermon on a sheet of paper, gets up in  the pulpit and reads it – and it then takes four men to collect the money!”
