A THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Lord, help me to admit when I am wrong, and make me easier to live with when I am right.
JUBILEE YEAR 2025
Pope Francis has proclaimed 2025 to be the Ordinary Jubilee or Holy Year 2025. The Bull of Indiction was given at St. John Lateran basilica on the solemnity of the Ascension.
Pope Francis writes, ‘For all of us, may the Jubilee be an opportunity to be renewed in hope. God’s word helps us find reasons for that hope. Taking it as our guide, let us return to the message that the Apostle Paul wished to communicate to the Christians in Rome’
“Hope does not disappoint” (Rm 5:5) … Hope is also the central message of the coming Jubilee that, in accordance with an ancient tradition, the Pope proclaims every twenty-five years. My thoughts turn to all of those pilgrims of hope who will travel to Rome in order to experience the Holy Year and to all of those others who, though unable to visit the City of the Apostles Peter and Paul, will celebrate it in their local Churches. For everyone, may the Jubilee be a moment of genuine, personal encounter with the Lord Jesus, the “door” of our salvation, whom the Church is charged to proclaim always, everywhere and to all as “our hope”
(1Tm 1:1)’ (Pope Francis, Spes non confundit,1)
THE WAR ON THE WEAK AND THE GOOD FIGHT
“I am far from reassured that ‘assisted death’ will not usurp palliative care. Let’s face it: ‘assisted dying’ is a lot cheaper than valuing life” In a world where abuse of the vulnerable is rife, British MP’s promised safeguards in the bill (yes, dying ‘safely’ is now a thing); two doctors will have to sign off before the patient is killed off. This drew howls from a retired friend: “I can hardly get seeing one doctor and I want to live!

POLITICS AND RELIGION (Fr. Billy Swan – Irish Catholic)
John Adams, one of the founding fathers of the United States, once said that: ‘Our constitution was made only for moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other’. In the aftermath of the General Election, it is worth remembering the wisdom of Adams. While politics, policies and laws are the bricks that make up our society, the mortar that holds it all together is the faith and moral fiber of the people of the nation. For if moral integrity goes missing, civilisation begins to unravel, no matter who is in power.

Keep me afloat and prevent me from drifting away for You. Amen.
