COLÁISTE ABBÁIN NEWS

We are thrilled to announce that Coláiste Abbáin has been selected to participate in Lidl Ireland’s Seriously Support Schools Programme for 2025. This initiative, is supported by the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LFGA), aims to promote the mental and physical health benefits of sport among teenage girls. A heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Lawless and Ms. Moynihan for their dedication to promoting LFGA in our school. Their efforts have been instrumental in achieving this recognition.

Huge congratulations to our talented 6th year student Lexirose Blanzy, who achieved outstanding success at the Newpark Music festival in Dublin. She was awarded 1st place in Vocal Solo 18 & Under and 2nd place in the Junior Musical Theatre. This is an incredible achievement, and we are so proud of her hard work, dedication, and talent.

Keep reaching for the stars Lexirose!

ADAMSTOWN ICA NEWS

Adamstown ICA held their March meeting on Wednesday last 12th March 2025. We had a great turnout. After the usual business, we caught up on all the news over the last month and discussed some upcoming events. The ‘ICA’s got Talent’ competition will be held on Wednesday 23rd April 2025. More details to follow. Frances Gallagher and Geraldine Bradley provided us with a lovely tea after the meeting. Helen brought some photo albums of the ICA ladies over the years, a lovely trip down memory lane. The raffle was won by Helene Forde & the competition was won by Ann Ryan. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 16th April 2025 at 8pm in Coláiste Abbáin.

New members are always welcome. Remember, you don’t have to be from the area to join us.

THE PASCHAL FIRE OF PATRICK

On Tara’s hill the daylight dies,

                    On Tara’s plain ‘tis dead.

“Till Baal’s unkindled fires shall rise

                    No fire must flame instead”

“Tis thus the King commanding speaks,

                    Commands and speaks in vain;

For lo! a fire defiant breaks

From out the woods of S’ane.

For there in prayer is Patrick bent,

                    With Christ his soul is knit;

And there before his simple tent

                    The Paschal fire is lit.

“What means this flame that through the night

                    Illumines all the vale?

What rebel hand a fire dare light

                    Before the fires of Baal?”

               O King ! when Baal’s dark-reign is o’er,

                    When thou thyself art gone,

This fire will light the Irish shore

                    And lead its people on.

Will lead them on full many a night

Through which they’re doomed to go,

Like that which led the Israelite

                    From bondage and from woe.

This fire, this sacred fire of God,

                    Young hearts shall bear afar

To lands no human foot hath trod

                    Beneath the Western Star

To lands where Faith’s bright flag unfurl’d.

By those who here have knelt

Shall give unto a newer world

                    The sceptre of the Celt.

(Denis Florence MacCarthy)

SYNOD UPDATE

As a Diocese, we have been engaged in a worldwide synod on synodality. The final report from Rome is available on our Diocesan web site under the heading Diocese News. This March, the Diocese is now hosting several consultations on the themes and priorities in preparation for a National Synod in 2026. These themes have emerged from our participation to date. We will explore the themes through the lens of hope to see how they might shape our future direction. If you would like to know more about our synodal journey, see www.synod.ie and if you wish to participate in a conversation about the priorities for our future, please e-mail synod@ferns.ie

As Church, we are ‘a people advancing on its pilgrim way towards God’ (Evangelii Gaudium, 111)

TEAM SPIRIT

A man got lost while driving through the countryside. As he reached for a map, he accidentally drove into a ditch. Though uninjured, his car was stuck in the mud. He walked to a nearby farm for help. “Warwick can get you out of that ditch”, said the farmer pointing to an old mule. The man was sceptical but agreed. The farmer hitched the mule to the car and shouted. “Pull, Fred! Pull Jack! Pull Ted! Pull Warwick!” The mule pulled the car out with ease. Amazed, the man asked, “Why did you call all those names before Warwick?”. The farmer grinned, “Old

Warwick is nearly blind. As long as he thinks he’s part of a team he’s fine.

THE PRAYER OF ST. PATRICK FOR HIS PEOPLE

May the strength of God guide us.

May the Power of God preserve us.

May the Wisdom of God instruct us.

May the Hand of God protect us.

May the Way of God direct us.

May the Shield of God defend us.

May the Angels of God guard us.

Against the snares of the evil one.

May Christ be with us!

May Christ be before us!

May Christ be in us,

Christ be over all!

May your Grace, Lord,

Always be ours,

This day, O Lord, and forevermore. Amen.

TWO SIBLINGS ARE GRAND MARSHALS AT ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADES – A WORLD APART

There is a double cause for celebration for the Wall family from Enniscorthy this year, as the oldest and the youngest of the family will Lead the St. Patrick’s Day Parades as Grand Marshals in Enniscorthy and St Louis Missouri, America. Sinead will lead the Enniscorthy Parade, an inspiring woman, Sinead recently won first place in the Trash Panache fashion show in the National Opera House to celebrate International Day for people with disabilities back in December. Her brother Eamonn has lived in St Louis since 2000 and is the Smurfit-Stone Corporation Professor of Irish Studies, as well as a Professor of English Studies, at the University of Missouri-St Louis. Their sister Annette was a much-loved teacher in Coláiste Abbáin for many years. We wish them well and hope they have a lovely St. Patrick’s Day.

PRAYER OF MERCY FOR REFUGEES –

Day of Prayer for Emigrants 17th March.

Abba Father, our beloved Father, look down with mercy on us and all refugees. Remember your son, our Lord Jesus Christ, had to leave his homeland and flee to Egypt, when he was a baby, with his mother Mary, and foster father, Joseph.

Help us to be aware of the fears, anxiety, pain, sorrow, difficulties and uncertainty all refugees suffer, and to remember that we all belong to the same human family.

Holy Spirit, please give us compassion and courage to help them in any way we can. Amen.

       Wishing everyone a Happy and

          Enjoyable St. Patrick’s Day.
