SYMPATHY
It was with deep sadness and shock the news was received on Saturday morning 31st May of the sudden death John Furlong, Misterin. John was deeply involved in many organisations/committees in the Parish over the years and a very committed Adamstown man, who gave so much of his time and talents for the betterment of our Parish.
We extend our deepest sympathy to his brothers Michael, Ned, Francis, Robert, sisters Statia, Mary and Kay, his nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours, and friends.
John’s funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Abban’s Church on Wednesday 4th followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
ADAMSTOWN COMMUNITY CENTRE COMMITTEE
TO THE FURLONG FAMILY
We at Adamstown Community Centre are deeply saddened by the passing of John Furlong.
John was a dedicated member of our Community Centre Committee and a valued part of our recent Grants Team.
He also served on many other Parish Committees over the years. His quiet wisdom, generosity, and steady commitment to community life left a lasting mark. PENTECOST REFLECTION – A New Language
On Pentecost Day the apostles spoke a new language.
What was this language?
It was the language of peace rather than war;
the language of cooperation rather than competition;
the language of forgiveness rather than vengeance;
the language of hope rather than despair;
the language of friendship rather than hostility;
the language of unity rather than division;
the language of love rather than hate.
Through the gift of the Spirit, people of different languages learned to profess one faith, to the praise and glory of God.
That is the real miracle of Pentecost, and it is a miracle which, thankfully, still happens.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK – SEEING IS BELIEVING
Henry Ford once asked a young car engineer to name his chief ambition in life. The young man said it was to become very rich. Everything else was secondary. Sometime later Mr. Ford gave the employee a small package. When opened, it revealed a pair of metal-rimmed spectacles, but in place of the lenses was a pair of silver dollars. “Put them on,” Ford requested. And the young man did. “Now what do you see?” Ford asked. “Nothing,” the engineer replied, “the money blocks everything.” “Maybe you should rethink that ambition of yours,” said the famous car maker, and walked away.
THE MOTOR-CYCLE PRIEST – Padre Pio Mass
Shortly after 6pm Fr. John Mockler, from Newcastlewest, Co. Limerick breezed into St. Abban’s Churchyard on his Harley Davidson look -a like. Fr. John was soon robed and started the Holy Hour. There was a centre-piece adorning St Pio’s picture at the middle of the Altar. The Kavanagh children played some wonderful harp music which added to the choir and Michael Ridgeway on guitar all enhanced the atmosphere.
Rosaries and holy literature were on display and available at the porch. People wrote their petitions, and the box was later brought to the Altar, Confessions continued during Adoration. A large gathering was present. Fr. John gave an interesting homily on the solemnity of the Eucharist and the need for us to pray constantly. He reminded the congregation that St. Pio will not help people unless they pray themselves first. Only then will miracles happen. Mass was con celebrated with Fr. John Mockler, Fr. Robert Nolan, Fr. Michael Byrne and Fr. Bernard Cushen. Immediately after Mass Fr. Mockler blessed individuals with a First-Class relic of St. Pio.
St. Pio says ‘Pray – Hope – and Don’t worry!
After a meal Fr. John made the long journey back on his motorbike to Co. Limerick.
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK – Morning Prayer
Lord, thank you for this day. I ask that you would guide my path today, my thoughts, words and actions. Please be with me throughout the day and help me to accept and welcome whatever comes my way. God of my life, I welcome this new day. It is your gift to me, a new creation, a promise of resurrection. Help me to live it in the light of the Gospel. Amen.
A SMILE – Location
“You mean to tell me,” said the teacher “that you don’t know where your tonsils are?” “That’s right,” said Michael. “You see they were taken out over a year ago”
