ADAMSTOWN LOTTO
The last and final draw in the Adamstown Lotto took place in Cullen’s Lounge on Monday 9th June. The winning numbers were: 13 – 17 – 26 – 28. There was no Jackpot winner, so the following four match three players shared the Jackpot of €4,800 giving receiving a very nice sum of €1,200.
Liam Bradley, Gusserane. Lorna Komsa, Adamstown, Kay Whelan, Kellystown & Pat Murphy Coolnagree.
The committee wishes to thank all those who supported the Lotto over the past 30 years, by purchasing tickets, selling tickets, working on draw nights, facilitating the collection & return of tickets, the printers, and anyone who in any way made it possible for so many clubs/organisations in Adamstown Parish benefit from the proceeds of the Lotto which we reckon was in the region of several hundred thousand pounds/euros.
We remember also those who sadly have passed away but were very much part of the family of Lotto, may their gentle souls rest in peace.

EULOGY READ AT JOHN FURLONG’S FUNERAL MASS ON
WEDNESDAY 4th JUNE BY HIS BROTHER ROBERT
Hello everyone.
Firstly, I would like to thank you all for coming to pay your respects to John. There is so much that can be said about John, but I just want to touch on some of the main points.
John started his mechanical career in Sheralds of Wexford, travelling in and out on a Honda 50. Now that was some sight!
He then upgraded to a Honda 175 and then onto a Fiat 127 and so on. John’s knowledge and expertise of the brand of John Deere is known all over the world, not just in Ireland.
To Jimmy and Joe Butler of TFM, John was always so proud to be a part of that team.
In our local community, John’s main interest was his local community. This devotion to his parish and community was second to none. His involvement in all of the committees that he sat on was something that he dearly loved to do. He was a very proud Adamstown man. I want you all to know that John was in very good form and very happy. He was excited to be involved in the new grants and developments that he was a part of at the moment. John was a very good brother, uncle and mentor, he will be dearly missed by us all. May he rest in peace.

Our 300 Club will go live later in the summer for sign up and more details on this and our proposed development will be released in the coming weeks. We look forward to welcoming our supporters into our 300 Club. As always, please feel free to contact our club chairman Graham Bradley 087 9514355 or club secretary Shane Walsh 087 9539291 if you have any questions.

MONSIGNOR RAYMOND MURRAY R.I.P. (Intercom May ’25)
Monsignor Murray and Monsignor Denis Faul were priests in the Diocese of Armagh. During the troubles in Northern Ireland, they spoke out without fear or favour, regardless of the prejudices of the British Government or the indiscriminate suffering of people at the hands of the RIC, UDR, IRA or the UVF. Monsignor Murray died on February 25th 2025. Monsignor Faul died some years ago. In an interview on his 80th birthday in 2018, Monsignor Murray talked to journalist William Scholes about his eventful life, and said ‘Fr. Denis Faul and I condemned republican murders but concentrated on state violence since out of fear there were less people drawn to that. We were lone figures in many ways since other leaders, facing often the hostility of the British government and elements of the British press, had not the courage to do so’ His own life was at times threatened – including reams of anonymous letters and a bullet in the post – but he doesn’t remember being scared himself. ‘When you’re young you have a strange mentality… The police came to me on a number of occasions to tell me my life was in danger’, he says. ‘They would say things like, ‘We would like to stay in the grounds of your house,’ and I would have no objections.
‘MARK CATHOLIC EMANCIPATION’. (Intercom)
Academics tell Government
Catholic emancipation was a ‘landmark civil rights achievement’ and should be celebrated accordingly by the State, say leading academics. The bicentenary of the historic 1829 milestone did not appear in the ‘Commemoration’ section of the programme for government which listed several events the new Government ‘could mark’ in their 5-year term. While it is implied that Catholic emancipation will be addressed as part of the 250th anniversary commemoration of the birth of Daniel O’Connell this year, Prof. Emeritus of History in UCD Maurice Bric told the Irish Catholic that he hoped a State commemoration of Catholic Emancipation would occur in 2029 as it is ‘such an important event in Irish history for a number of reasons, the main reason being it marks the repeal of the penal laws’. Prof Bric said that in addition Catholic emancipation is not ‘just a chapter in the history of Irish Catholicism, it’s part of the wider history of civil rights’.
