RING OUT THE OLD ,RING IN THE NEWAs we approach the beginning of 2020 A.D.Our minds travel back to Saturday 23rd Dec,1999and the Blessing of the automated system of St Abbans Church By Bishop Brendan ComiskeyThe following lines found in the tower of Chester Cathedral are appropriate :When as a child ,I laughed and wept, Time creptWhen as a youth, I dreamt and talked, Time walked. When I became a full -grown man , Time ranWhen older still I daily grew, Time flew.Soon I shall find on travelling on- Time goneO Christ , wilt Thou have saved me then?Amen. SILENT NIGHTSilent Night ,was written in 1818 by an Austrian assistant priest Joseph Mohr. "Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht" was heard for the first time at Midnight Mass in St Nicholas Church in Oberndorf, Austria . The congregation listened as the voices of Fr Joseph Mohr and the choir director, Franz Xaver Gruber, rang through the church to the accompaniment of Fr Mohr's guitar. Today, Silent Night, Holy Night is sung in more than 180 languages by millions of people.SAINT BRIGID'S BLESSING FOR THE NEW YEARMay Brigid bless the house where in we dwellBless every fireside, every wall and doorBless every heart that beats beneath its roofBless every hand that toils to bring its joyBless every foot that walks portals through.May Brigid bless the house that shelters us.THANK YOUA word of thanks to all who gave so much of their time their talent &their treasure to prepare for the celebration of Christmas. The adornment of the church added so much to the celebration of our Liturgy. The proclamation of the good News was announced to the families who gathered and was welcomed warmly in St Abbans Church where close knit parishioners celebrated their Kinship with one another and memories of past Christmas. The sound of music, the joyful presence of children with their parents, gave expression to the presence of Jesus, our Emmanuel, who has come to dwell amongst us. The flicker of candles lit by many parishioners after visiting the resting places of their loved ones, was a symbol of a living Faith in the bleak Mid Winter and illuminated our church during the festive season.May the glad tidings bring us comfort, Hope and healing in the year to come.ADVICE FOR THE NEW YEAR"Do not be afraid !Open the doors to Christ. God works in the concrete and personal affairs of each one of us. Don't let the time that the Lord gives you run on as if everything were due to chance. With this expression of my hope I send you all from the depths of my heart, my blessing" Pope John Paul 2.THE FEAST OF THE HOLY INNOCENTSThe feast of the Holy Innocents is not simply a memorial to those who died before their time. While the little children of Bethlehem were unconscious victims of forces beyond their control, they also serve to remind us of the many who dream of a different future. In remembering the Holy Innocents, we commemorate the victims of Herod's rage. But we also celebrate Herod's failure, for the child of hope lives on in every generation. (Fr John Murray) First Friday Mass 3rd January 2020 at 9.30 amFirst Saturday 4th January @ 9.30am Wishing everyone a very happy New Year.
