The weekly ‘30’ card game continues in the Community Centre on Friday 27th August at 9.00 pm. Catering on the night will be Breda Cummins, Bernie Hickey, Evelyn O’Gorman and Ann O’Gorman, Kellystown. Catering for the following Friday 3rd September will be Cathy O’Gorman, Bridge O’Gorman, Ann Stafford, Kay Whelan and Agnes Whelan, Kellystown. Proceeds will go to the Parish Funds.

Due to both entrance gates into Adamstown Cemetery being left open on a regular basis for sometime, the Cemetery Committee has put up notices requesting all vehicle drivers to please close gates when leaving. Drivers are also requested not to drive on the grass. The Committee appeals to all visitors for their full co-operation and show respect for the sacred place where our dearly departed relatives and friends are laid to rest. HARVEST FESTIVAL NEWS
Arrangements for the 9th Annual Adamstown Harvest Festival on Sunday 12th September at Dick and Bessie Fortune’s farm in Doonooney are at an advanced stage. The organising Committee plan to have a vintage working day in conjunction with all the usual vintage ploughing classes and a steam engine farm threshing in the mid-afternoon. The working day will consist of an exhibition of horse ploughing, tilling and sowing the crop like it was done many years ago. Other attractions planned are Irish Dancing, Tug-of-War, making griddle bread, Dolly’s butter making, a Dog show, many other family fun events, plus many other stalls and side-shows. All ploughing competitors are requested to be on site at 11.30 am, as ploughing will start at 12 noon sharp. The Committee is actively looking for sponsorship, which will be very much appreciated. The charities to benefit from this years event are Sister Helen Delaney, towards her life – saving work in Uganda, the Hope Centre and Raheen Day Care Centre. The next meeting is planned for Thursday 2nd September at 9.00 pm.

COMMUNITY ALERT MEETING REMINDER

MASS ROCK CARRIGBYRNE
Annual Mass at the Mass Rock in the Rock Lane, Raheenacloonagh, at the butt of Carrigbyrne Rock will take place on Sunday August 29th at 6.00 pm.
COMMEMORATION AT GLENOUR CROSS
The organization of National Ex-Service men and a guard of honour from the FCA will attend Mass in St Abbans on Sunday 22nd August at 10.30 am and afterwards there will parade to Glenour where a wreath will be laid at the Civil War Memorial.
MASS AT TOBAR ABBAN WELL
The mass at St Abbans well will take place on Sunday 29th august at 11.00 am (weather permitting), with the kind permission of the Doyle family, Glenour. As this is the 175th Anniversary of St Abbans church. Parishioners might like to inform other members of their family living elsewhere who are very welcome to attend.
A collection in aid of Pakistan Disaster Trocaire Fund will take place after mass
The news all children have been waiting for – Adamstown National School re-opens on Monday 30th august at 9.20 am. We welcome the new Junior Infants and extend good wishes to the out going 6th class who will be starting Secondary School at this time. Following extensive work by way of Summer Scheme, the school has been fitted with all new windows and external doors, the exterior has been painted and all classrooms have new window-blinds. With attic and wall insulation having been completed some months ago, and the new aluminum windows fitted, the whole school should be a much warmer and comfortable place for our children to be taught in.

Our Sympathy is extended to the relations and friends in the Parish of Pat Carden, Ballyenvary, Davidstown. His funeral mass took place on Wednesday 18th August in Davidstown Church. He was laid to rest with his late wife Elizabeth (nee Lawlor, Knockreigh, Adamstown) in Davidstown Cemetery on Wednesday. May he rest in Peace.

Local Soprano Joanne McCabe will be holding a benefit concert on September 17th in St Laurence’s Church, Templeudigan. Joanne is a classically trained vocalist although her concert will include a variety of musical styles. Proceeds will be used to further her tuition as a lyric soprano with renowned Irish Soprano Deirdre Masterson and thus local support is needed. Tickets are pried at €15.00 and are available in Adamstown from Mary Kirwan. Over the past years Joanne has made valuable contribution through choirs and solo performances in many churches throughout the locality including Adamstown. This promises to be a relaxed, enjoyable evening with local gests so please support Joanne in the next stage of her study and purchase a ticket now
Adamstown Athletic Club are holding their 4th annual Open cross Country in Adamstown on Sunday 19th September 2010 at 12.00 pm, there will be races for Boys and Girls U9, U10, U11, U13, U15, U17, Senior Ladies and Senior Men, individual and team prizes.
