On Tuesday last 28th of June the 6th class in Adamstown National School had a special year end mass in St Abban’s Church.  Their teacher Ms Maire Reddy and the pupils had prepared a lovely ceremony to celebrate their last days in National school.  As they move on to Secondary school, it is a big step forward for them.  Principal Mr Nicholas Flynn in wishing them well for the future gave them words of advice and encouragement; he also thanked Ms Reddy for her work and dedication to the 5th and 6th classes over the past three years.  Maire leaves Adamstown National School this week to take up teaching in her native Kilkenny in September.  She thanked everyone for the warm welcome, kindness and co-operation shown to her over the past three years and said she was sorry to leave Adamstown, as this was her first teaching post.  Fr Nolan PP also thanked Maire and wished her well for the future and extended good wishes to the 6th class, who were treated to some lovely refreshments in the Parochial House after Mass.  Finishing their Primary education were;  Ethan Delaney, JP Furlong, Sean Hynes, Natasha Mackey, Sandra Mahon, Aaron O’Brien, Nicole O’Dwyer, Rebecca Redmond, Liam Stafford, Serena McCarthy, Vlad Komarshchuk, kamil Lukaszenccz, Sebastian Iovan, Lorien Walsh and Patrick Morrissey.  Extending good wishes to all the class as they leave Adamstown National School.

Many people from the area attended the under – 21 Leinster hurling championship game between Wexford and Laois in Wexford Park last Wednesday night and will no doubt attend the provincial final against Dublin at the same venue in two weeks time.  Local lad James Breen was the focus of much of the attention and he delivered the goods with a superlative display.  Another local lad Eric Bradley mean while is making his presence felt with the Wexford Senior footballers as they go in quest of Leinster honours, while at minor level Shane O’Gorman and Tony French kept the local flag flying as members of the hurling team that played Kilkenny at Wexford Park last Saturday night.  They all had plenty of local support in recent games and we wish them and the county teams that they line out with further success in the busy weeks ahead.
Close to home the local senior football team went under to Horeswood in a closely fought game at Adamstown on Tuesday night of last week.  This game doubled up as an all county league and Tommie Murphy cup contest.
The Intermediate hurlers had two good wins recently when they defeated Geraldine O’Hanrahans on a score of 1-14 to 1-7 in New Ross and they defeated Bannow/Ballymitty on a score of 1-12 to 1-6 at Grantstown.  The under – 12 hurlers also had good wins, 1-8 to 3-0 away to Kilmore and 2-6 to 2-4 at home to Bannow/Ballymitty.  The under – 12 footballers had a 3-7 to 2-5 win over Volunteers.  The under-14 hurlers had three goals to spare over Fethard at Adamstown but were well beaten by Shelmaliers at Hollymount.  The under-14 footballers also had to give best to the Shelmaliers the previous week.  The under-10 hurlers did well in reading the Division 3 final of The Caulfields league and thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the New Ross venue.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul is seeking public support for its campaign to reduce the publication of unnecessary new schoolbook editions.  It is asking parents to sign a petition calling on the Minister for Education and Skills to set up an effective national book rental scheme.  The petition is available at www.svp.ie/books.  “The constant flow of unnecessary new editions means that families are forced to keep forking out for new texts, while tones of books end up dumped.  It’s crazy – and unnecessary”.  Said SVP National President Mairead Bushnell.

You will find your envelope box in the porch of the Church in order of Townsland.  Thank you for your support.
