The weekly “30” Card Game continues in the Community Centre on Friday January 22nd @ 9pm. There is €220 in prize money on offer each night. Catering Friday January 22nd will be: Ann Foley, Ann Barron, Mary Power and Kathleen Murphy. Proceeds going to Parish Funds.

Due to the weather on Monday last 11th January the lotto draw for that night was cancelled and will now take place on Monday 18th January in the Out House, Rourke’s Cross. The Jackpot will be €12,000 with the winning seller receiving €1,000.

A meeting of Adamstown Show Committee will be held this Thursday 21st January in the community centre @ 8:30pm. All members please attend.

A meeting for all parishioners, to discuss new proposals from the cemetery committee will be held in Adamstown community centre on Tuesday 26th January @ 8:30pm. A recent meeting of the cemetery committee agreed that headstones would be erected back-to-back from now on. This plan has three main advantages, 1) graves can be opened by a mini-digger, 2) there will be a 4½ feet wide cement path along by the foot of all new graves, 3) ease of access for everyone attending to or visiting graves. If you have any views on these matters please attend this important meeting on Tuesday 26th January.

I.C.A Centenary Year. The centenary of the Irish Countrywomen’s Association, founded at Bree on June 15th 1910 by Mrs. Anita Lett, is taking place this year and a number of national events are planned. This will include a reception at Dublin Castle next Wednesday, January 20th and a two-day celebration on Thursday May 6th and Friday May 7th at Bree, birthplace of the ICA. The event includes a dinner, civic reception and the unveiling of a plaque. There is also a special commemorative stamp to be issued by An Post in March or April which will be specially sought after by collectors in Co Wexford.

The Euro Bank is now open for savings in 2010 each weekend as usual.

The A.G.M. of Adamstown Coiste na nOg will take place on Thursday 21st January in Adamstown community centre @ 8pm. Your support on the night would be greatly appreciated. Membership fees are now due and this is a good opportunity to pay your membership for 2010.

At the first monthly meeting of the New Year on January 5th the chairman Mogue Curtis presided over a large attendance. Among the items discussed were the upcoming ploughing match at Kellystown on Sunday February 21st and the annual Pat Byrne road run on Easter Sunday April 4th. A committee was formed to look after Health and Safety for these events. Any members who have not paid their membership and anyone interested in joining the club should contact the secretary, Maurice Duggan on 086-7962599. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday February 2nd @ 9pm.

100,000 feared dead as major relief effort gets under way. Joel Trimble a missionary in Haiti said the earthquake had felt like a train was coming down the road. What the public can do to help?

Sincere Sympathy is extended to Phil and Terry Mahon and family, Woodview Drive, Adamstown on the death of Phil’s brother John Mahon who died tragically. John was beloved husband of Sheila. John and Sheila lived at Woodview Drive for a number of years before they went to live in Sli a Uisce, Spout Road, Clonroche. John will be sadly missed by his wife Sheila, relations and many friends. His funeral Mass was celebrated in Cloughbawn Church on Monday 11th June Burial afterwards in Cushinstown Cemetery. May He Rest In Peace.
