ADAMSTOWN GAA  NEWS

Wonderful news to receive Sports Capital Funding again, which helps us to maintain our progress and development.

This support will enable us to move to stage 4 of our ambitious plan launched 8 years ago. Our own clubhouse will not only give us dressing rooms and toilets but perhaps more importantly give us a place to call our own. Once again, many thanks must go to those who had the foresight many years ago to start saving money for these projects and initiate the development of a plan that has been followed by successive committees over the years. Finally, we would like to thank Minister James Browne TD for his support for this initiative and Paul Kehoe TD for his support in the past, it is much appreciated.  The Sports Capital Grant Allocation received by Adamstown GAA is €178,564.

EULOGY READ AT CECILIA HEFFERNAN’S FUNERAL

MASS ON 15th Sept by her grandson James

Good morning all,

We gather here today to celebrate the remarkable life of Nanna. Throughout her 101 years, Nanna witnessed significant changes and lived through historical events that we, of the younger generation, learned about in school. Nanna had a profound love of farming, a passion that she carried throughout her life, and passed on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren She saw the evolution of farming from the labour-intensive, hands-on work of her youth to the modern, machinery-driven practices of today.

Nanna often reminisced about the hard work required back then,  highlighting the stark contrast to the efficiency we now enjoy – Our conversations alway began with her saying “Is the work holding out?’ always said with a keen smile and a knowing look as if to say ‘ye have it handy. Having grown up with the bicycle and pony and trap, she never said no to a Sunday drive around St.Kearns and Hook Head. She particularly loved a trip to Cullenstown for an ice-cream which was the  holiday destination of her youth. Nanna lived a long and fulfilling life, never once falling ill. We are profoundly grateful for this blessing. We would like to thank the management, and the nursing staff and carers at Cherrygrove nursing home for the wonderful care they took of her over the past few years, and all the regular visitors who called to keep Nanna company over the years.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the neighbours and friends who have called over the past few days. Your support and kindness have been a great comfort to us during this time.

We also wish to thank Fr. Nolan and Fr. Murphy and also  Ryan’s Undertakers for their care and professionalism in ensuring we had a lovely send-off for Nanna.

Today, as we remember Nana, we also think of her daughter, Mary, who passed away in 2026. We take comfort in knowing they are reunited once more.

Rest in peace, Nanna. You will be forever missed and always

Remembered.

ONE DAY AT A TIME SWEET JESUS

We have to fight them daily……those many small worries about the morrow, for they sap our energies…  The things that have to be done must be done, and for the rest we must not allow ourselves to become infested with thousands of petty fears and worries, so many motions of  no confidence in God… Ultimately, we have just one moral duty: to reclaim large areas of peace in ourselves, more and more peace, and to reflect it towards others. And the more peace there is in us, the more peace there will also be in our troubled world.

(Etty Hillesum – Reflection on Matthew 6:34)

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK – Evening Prayer

At the end of this day, I take a few minutes to remember the events that have passed. At what moment did I recognise that  God was with me? Forgive me, Lord, if I didn’t recognise you.

Help me tomorrow to be more attentive to your voice and follow your will. Amen.

A THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Sometimes love is for a moment,

Sometimes love is for a lifetime,

Sometimes a moment is a lifetime
