THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH!

‘Where My Word is unspoken,

In the land of lobelias and tennis flannels

The rabbit shall burrow and the thorn revisit,

The nettle shall flourish on the gravel court,

And the wind shall say: “Here were decent godless people;

Their only monument the asphalt road

And a thousand lost golf balls’

(T. S. Eliot, Choruses from ‘The Rock’)

MARRIED COUPLE WITH 7 CHILDREN TO BE BEATIFIED

Pope Francis has recognised the martyrdom of a married couple with 7 children who were killed by the Nazis for hiding a Jewish family in their home in Poland. On Dec 17th Pope Francis signed a decree on the martyrdom of Józef and Wiktoria Ulma, who were executed along with all their children in 1944. The World Holocaust Remembrance Centre has honoured the couple at Righteous Among the Nations for the sacrifice of their lives. With the recognition of their martyrdom by the pope, the Polish couple can now be beatified with their seven children (including one unborn)

Early on March 24th, 1944, a Nazi patrol surrounded the home of the couple on the outskirts of the village of Markowa in southeast Poland. They discovered eight Jewish people who had found refuge on the Ulma farm and executed them.

The Nazi police then killed Wiktoria, who was 7 months pregnant, and Józef. As children began to scream at the sight of their murdered parents, the Nazis shot them too; Stanislawa, age 8; Barbara, 7; Wladyslaw, 6; Franciszek, 4, Antoni, 3; and Maria, 2.  Pope Francis signed the decree on their martyrdom on his 86th birthday, advancing 15 other causes for canonization, including recognizing the heroic virtue of Matteo Ricci, a well-known 17th century Jesuit missionary in China.

MARY’S DREAM  (Author unknown)

“I had a dream, Joseph. I don’t understand it, not really, but I think it was about a birthday celebration for our Son.

I think that’s what it was all about. ” The people had been preparing for it for weeks. They decorated their houses and bought new clothes and lots of expensive gifts.

It was peculiar though, because the presents were not for our Son.  They wrapped them in beautiful paper and tied them with lovely bows and stacked them under a tree.

Yes, a tree, Joseph, right in their house. They also decorated the tree. The branches were full of glowing balls and sparkling ornaments. There was a figure on the top of the tree. It looked like an angel might look.  Oh, it was beautiful. Everyone was laughing and happy. They were all excited about the gifts. They gave the gifts to each other, Joseph, not to our Son.

I don’t think they even knew Him. They never mentioned His name. Doesn’t it seem odd for people to go to all that trouble to celebrated someone’s birthday if they don’t know Him.

I had the strangest feeling that, if our Son had gone to this celebration, He would have been intruding.

Everything was so beautiful, Joseph, and everyone so gay, but it made me want to cry. How sad for Jesus – not to be wanted at His own birthday party. I’m glad it was only a dream. How terrible, Joseph, if it had been real”
