SENDING BEST WISHES TO OUR EXAM STUDENTS

Our thoughts and prayers are with the students of our Parish this week as they begin the Leaving Cert & Junior Cert  Exams on Wednesday next. May the Holy Spirit’s gift of wisdom be theirs in the coming weeks.

A Prayer for Students

O’Lord help me at my exams to remember the things which I have learned and studied.

Help me to remember well and to think clearly.

Give me the grace to keep calm so that I may do myself justice.

May all the work I have done be like seeds sown for a future harvest.

Lord, I ask you also to help my friends, especially those who are nervous and stressed.

Send your Spirit of peace upon them too.

For this I ask in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

IT HAPPENED IN JUNE – (Pioneer Magazine)

3rd June 1963- Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli,

Pope John XXIII, died in Rome at the age of eighty-one, having been Pope since 1958. He was succeeded by Pope Paul VI. Affectionately known as ‘the good Pope’, he was canonised, along with Pope John Paul II, in 2014.

DECLINING MASS ATTENDANCE

The analytics and data company Amárach has produced a survey which shows that only 14% of Irish Catholics regularly attend Sunday Mass. This is down a significant number since before the lockdowns, where 24% of Ireland’s population as a whole claimed to attend weekly Mass. Church lockdowns were hugely destructive to people’s faith, with many of the surveyed claiming that their faith simply “isn’t as strong” as before they were denied regular access to Mass. However, the lockdowns can only be partly to blame – in many ways, they served to show up the deep issues which are consuming Irish Catholicism. It is worth noting that the Irish Bishops have announced that attending Mass on Sundays and holydays of obligation “will once again be deemed an essential expression of faith for all in our Church in Ireland.

This came into effect from 17th April 2022.

ST. MARY & ST. MICHAEL PARISH CHURCH MUSEUM

The St. Mary & St. Michael’s Parish Church, New Ross museum display has been attracting a lot of interest.

Located in the ante chamber to the left as you enter the church’s front door, the museum includes Kavanagh Collection photos of the Parish Church at all stages of its construction, an encased pulley used in the construction, the trowel used by the Bishop laying the first foundation stone, various documents, some more modern photos, a display case, Altar Servers Vestments dated c1925-1930’s and New Ross Standard publications from 1895-1902, which includes the list of contributors to the building of the church.

Monsignor Joe McGrath said the museum is attracting a lot of attention among visitors to the church – which had its 120th anniversary in September. The museum was developed in conjunction with the 120th anniversary. It’s a nice addition to

the church, which is a tourist attraction in the town. The pastoral council, priests and the office staff were involved in setting up the museum. Monsgr McGrath said some fantastic items were donated including the trowel and invitations to the church’s opening, adding that if anyone has something they feel would add to the museum they can contact the church office.

The church is open daily from 7.30am – 7.00pm.

A THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK – (St. Martin’s Magazine)

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives.

If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. We would never fly!

I asked for Strength….. and God gave me Difficulties to make me strong.

I asked for Wisdom …and God gave me Problems to solve.

I asked for Love …and God gave me Troubled people to help.

I received nothing I wanted… I received everything I needed!

May God Bless You

May Goodness, Kindness and Mercy come your way.

And may you gain Wisdom and grow in the Lord everyday.
