The Millennium Bell  – (Chris McGale)

The soft wind blows my sound so free,

From Ballyvergin and Raheenduff to Coolnagree,

I reach and stretch so all can hear

And feel His love and peace so near.

I call His flock to meet and rest,

Right here beneath my steely breast.

To contemplate and talk and hear

And feel His love and peace so near.

This ancient house a mother be,

To those who come and join with me.

And I merrily call for all to hear,

Come, feel His love and peace so near.

By St. Abban’s Cross I stand and wait,

Will they hear my chimes and congregate?

And then gather loud so I can hear,

And feel His love and peace right here.)

Let us remember this weekend all our loved ones who faithfully heard the peal of the Millennium Bell and came to worship in St. Abban’s Church and have now gone to their eternal reward.

May they rest in peace.

CHRISTMAS IN ST. ABBAN’S

It was so lovely to see such huge crowds in attendance at both the Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. It was the biggest attendance for many years.

Thanks to Fr. Nolan, choir for their lovely singing on Christmas Eve Mass & the Folk group & the young girls who sang at Christmas Day Mass which greatly enhanced both ceremonies and were really appreciated by those in attendance. Thanks to T J. for facilitating the Mass being relayed online, Eucharistic ministers, readers, and to Cáit for preparing the Church for the Masses, a sincere thanks to all.

A WORD OF THANKS

A word of thanks to Pawel & Lorna Komsa, John & Catherine Hanley, Joe & Cáit Bradley, Anne O’Brien for putting up the Crib and Christmas Tree in the Church and for the beautiful decoration of both the Crib and Tree and the front porch of the Church. Thanks to Kay & Queenie McCabe for providing the Holly & Ivy for the Crib & Church.

Thanks to parishioners from Kellystown for providing the beautiful flowers in the church. The whole church and entrance were beautifully decorated – well done to all involved for this fitting tribute for Christmas.

SYMPATHY

We extend our deepest sympathy to Kathleen & Tommy O’Connor and family Misterin on the death of Kathleen’s sister Mrs. Alice Whelan, Balliniry, Ramsgrange on Monday 25th December. Our sympathy also to her son and daughters, brothers, sisters, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday 27th in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Duncannon followed by burial in

Ballycullane Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

A WORD OF THANKS – Newsletter

Since 18th/19th December 1999, our Weekly Newsletter has been printed practically each week (even during Covid 19 this was done). As we come to the end of another year, a sincere thanks to those individuals and organizations/ committee/schools etc., who give items for inclusion each week.  Thanks to those who give a donation, which goes towards the purchase & printing of the Newsletter, 125 copies are printed each week – and most weeks they are all taken.

It is difficult to source items on a weekly basis, so we would love to get items of interest – from home or abroad to print.

You can forward to elliewalsh1949@gmail.com if you have items of local history or any interesting information old or new.

We all know that if it is not written down – it is gone perhaps forever.  Wishing everyone a Happy & Peaceful New Year.

REFLECTION  – The Wild Geese  (Patrick Kavanagh)

When I saw the wild geese flying

In fair formation to their base in Inchicore

And I knew that these wings would outwear the wings of war

And a man’s simple thoughts outlive the day’s loud lying.

Don’t fear, don’t fear, I said to my soul,

The bedlam of time is an empty bucket rattled,

‘Tis you who will say in the end who best rattles,

Only they who fly home to God have flown at all.

A PRAYER FOR THE NEW YEAR – (Intercom Magazine)

Dear Lord, please give me..

A few friends who understand me and remain my friends:

A work to do which has real value, without which the world would be the poorer;

A mind unafraid to travel, even though the trail be not blazed:

An understanding heart;

 A sense of humour:

Time for quiet, silent meditation;

A feeling of the presence of God;

The patience to wait for the coming of these things,

With the wisdom to recognise them when they come.
