ADAMSTOWN ICA NEWS

Adamstown ICA Guild held their monthly meeting on Wednesday 13th in Coláiste Abbáin. Our President Helen Furlong welcomed everyone and after the usual formalities, we got down to the business of the meeting. Our guest speaker, Dan Redmond from Wexford Lions Club gave a very informative talk on the “Letter in a Bottle” project run by the Lions Club. The idea is to have all your medical history and list of current medication written on a special form, this is supplied by Lions Club for a small donation.

There is a couple of green cross stickers also supplied, one for your front door and one for the fridge door. If a Doctor or Ambulance is called to your house they will know exactly where to find all the relevant medical information, especially if you are unable to tell them.

The competition for the nicest Easter Bonnet was won by Helen and the raffle won by Liz Furlong. A lovely tea was served by hostesses Rita and Breda, thank you ladies.

Keep Thursday April 18th free, as Wexford Folklorist Michael Fortune will be in Adamstown, venue to be confirmed.

We would like to wish everyone A Happy and Blessed Easter.

PRAYER FOR GOOD WEATHER –  Bishop Ger Nash

“God our loving Father, we know that you care deeply for us.

We ask you to bless us with the good weather we so badly need at this time.

Bless the work and efforts of all your people so that their endeavours may produce the results they need.

Grant success to the work of our hands.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord”. Amen.

THE PRESENCE OF GOD

“Yet sometimes when the sun comes through a gap,

These men see God the Father in a tree.

The Holy Spirit is the rising sap,

And Christ will be the green leaves that will come

At Easter from the sealed and guarded tomb”

(Patrick Kavanagh – The Great Hunger)

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A WINNER AND A LOSER

The winner is always a part of the answer;

The loser is always part of the problem.

The winner sees an answer for every problem.

The loser sees a problem for every answer.

The winner sees a green near every sand trap.

The loser sees two or three sand traps near every green.

The winner says, “It may be difficult, but it’s possible”

The loser says, “It may be possible, but it’s too difficult”

The winner always has a programme.

The loser always has an excuse.

The winner says, “Let me do that for you”

The loser says, “That’s not my job.”

GLENNDALOCH  Thackeray’s Description of

Within the favoured land, no spot can rival Glenndaloch

in the beauty of its situation, in the interest of its history, or in the importance of its memorials of the past. Its charm has won the praises of strangers to whom, however accomplished and sympathetic, its more sacred memories could only have appealed with a lessened force. Sir Walter Scott speaks of “the inestimably singular scene of Irish antiquity” – while Thackeray writes of Glenndaloch: “I think the Irish scenery just like the Irish melodies – sweet, wild, and sad even in the sunshine. I do not know if there is any tune about Glenndaloch but if there be, it must be the most delicate, fantastic, fairy melody that ever was played. Only fancy can describe the charms of that delightful place. Directly you see it, it smiles at you as innocent and friendly as a little child; and once seen, it becomes your friend for ever, and you are always happy when you think of it. Here is a little lake, and little fords across it, surrounded by little islands, where there are all sorts of fantastic little old chapels, and graveyards; or again, into little breaks and shrubberies, where small rivers are crossing over little rocks, splashing and jumping, and singing as loud as ever they can. If the subtle charm of Glenndaloch inspired such feelings in the minds of strangers, it is little wonder that it has been a favourite theme of the bards and poets of Ireland; that it was the chosen cell and sanctuary of many of her Saints and that for over a thousand years it has been rightly held in veneration as one of the Holy Places of Ireland.

(Glenndalogh – Rev. Sir John O’Connell)

ST.  FRANCIS de SALES

“When the bee has gathered the dew of heaven and the earth’s sweetest nectar from the flowers, it turns it into honey, then hastens to its hive. In the same way, the priest, having taken from the altar the Son of God (who is as the dew from heaven, and true son of Mary, flower of our humanity), gives him to you as delicious food”

CELEBRATION OF 158 YEARS OF LORETO SISTERS IN WEXFORD

There will be a celebration Mass by the Bishop of Ferns, Most Rev Ger Nash on Friday April 26th in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Rowe St, Wexford at 7pm.

All welcome to attend.

A THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK   Pope Francis)

” A father is not a superhero. He cannot protect his children from every suffering. It would be unfair if he wanted to do so, because he would be shielding them from real life. Still, his love stands firm, ready to give support, strength, hope and care. A father’s heart beats with wisdom.

A father’s radically generative disposition of mind and heart leads him to think about his children’s future and their welfare.

So speeches of ideals are just enough.

What a father must provide is a living example

Wishing Everyone a Happy and Peaceful Easter
