ADAMSTOWN ICA NEWS

There was a great turnout for the ICA summer outing on Wednesday 10th July. We were particularly delighted to have so many visitors join us on the day, who were very welcome, and we hope that we will have more visitors on future outings. Watch this space!

Our first stop was The Chocolate Garden of Ireland, just outside Tullow. We had a very interesting talk on the cultivation of the cacao plant and the process of chocolate  making, which included to our delight, plenty of chocolate samples. And we got to make our own chocolate Teddy bear to bring home. A great idea for a trip out with the family. We visited Rathwood garden centre, which is very close by, also well worth a visit.

Then it was on to Carlow for some retail therapy, and we ended the day with dinner at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel. The lovely Bernard was at the wheel for our drive home to Adamstown and we are already looking forward to our  next trip.

Our  next meeting is on Wednesday 11th September in Coláiste Abbain. New members are always welcome.

THANKS

On behalf of the Crowley family we would like to thank everyone who sympathised with us on the death of our brother Andy. To all who attended the wake & funeral and all who sent Mass and Sympathy cards. Also thanks to Fr. Nolan and all the people who prayed for Andy during his illness. It was very much appreciated by his family.

A Mass will be offered for your intentions.

From Cáit Bradley.

ADAMSTOWN SHOW

The 75th Adamstown Agricultural Show took place on Saturday last in the village. The weather was good in the morning but unfortunately heavy rain came in the early afternoon. But it didn’t deter the great crowds of people who turned out for the show.

It was a wonderful occasion with lots to see and do.

A big attraction this year was the fantastic display of hens, cockerels, rabbits, ducks & other fowl, and all the entries in the cookery, flower, needlework & photos, craftwork etc. in the tent. On the field there were lots of horse & pony jumping, sheep, goats and dog show to enjoy, Vintage Display, and plenty of trade stands with a huge variety of items on show and for sale.

Well done to all the volunteers who worked all day to ensure that things ran smoothly. Congratulations to the Show Committee on the wonderful success of their 75th Show in Adamstown.

Long may it continue.

BISHOP INVITES POLITICIANS TO REVIEW ABORTION DECISION

Speaking to the Irish Catholic at the Rally for Life in Dublin, Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan said politiicans had opened the floodgates to abortion despite promising “repeatedly” that it would be “safe, legal and rare”

“Well I would say two things about that. They are not safe for the baby and they are certainly not rare. Have courage to face reality and to revisit that decision. It is over 10,000 now per year. This is a tragedy. This is so much pain and suffering that is being multiplied on women, on men, on families and the unborn themselves who are not getting the chance to live. That is the first injustice to deprive somebody of the right to life”

He also challenged the media to publish the truth about abortion. “The number of abortions has increased 250% since the floodgates opened on the first of January 2019 and it’s in no media outlet apart from a tiny few like The Irish Catholic and Gript etc., The main media outlets are not taking up the story. Somebody has got to speak up for the unborn. People are just being kept in the dark.

Sympathy to his wife Ann, children Angela, Ken, sister Mary, brother John neighbours and friends. His funeral Mass took place in Bride St. Church, Wexford followed by burial in Crosstown Cemetery. WORDS AT THE CLOSURE OF A CHURCH

“Most rural parishes in Ireland have a Mass rock or a site where Mass was celebrated in Penal Times. What these places have in common is that they have no walls and no roof, just a holy space for holy people. That experience taught Irish people that buildings don’t matter, they can be taken from us when the powers-that-be decide. Buildings don’t last, only faith does. We have not here a lasting city; at the end, we leave every dwelling behind. Faith sustains us on the journey of life and into new life”

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK  – Morning Prayer

(Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network)

Heavenly Father, as I begin this day, I look to you for guidance. I offer you the joys and sorrows, laughter and tears of this day, and unite myself to the intentions of Pope Francis for this  month, that political leaders be at the service of their own people, working for integral human development and the common good, taking care of those who have lost their jobs and giving priority to the  poor.

A SMILE – ‘Up the Walls’   Ireland’s Own

Little Johnny gave his grandma a hug and said, “I’m so happy to see you. Now Daddy will do the trick he’s been promising us. “And what trick’s that? she asked. “Well,” said Jimmy. “I heard Daddy tell Mammy that he would climb the walls if you came to visit again”

LETTER FROM THE BISHOP’S HOUSE

Dear Fr. Bobby,

Following a long period of consultation with the priests and people of the Diocese and of which you will be aware, it is now time to move to establish the model which has been agreed. Following our conversation this week, I am appointing you to be Co Parish Priest of the Pastoral Area of New Ross-Cushinstown-Adamstown-

Newbawn. Your Co PP’s in that area will be Fr. Joe McGrath, Brian Whelan and Roger O’Neill and together as a team you will be responsible for the pastoral care of New Ross-Cushinstown-Adamstown-Newbawn. You are currently Parish Priest of Adamstown where you will continue to reside. I have appointed  Fr. Brian Whelan as Moderator. The role of moderator will be to convene the team. The principal responsibility of the team working together will be to ensure that all pastoral need of the area are being addressed; that a named person is responsible for the Safeguarding and Financial reporting in each individual Parish or Curacy and finally that each priest has the opportunity to have time off each week and an appropriate amount of annual leave.

What you are entering into with your colleagues is a new structure of ministry for the Diocese and the exact shape of it is something that will evolve as you and the team work at it. In particular, it should provide an opportunity for priests to focus on those areas of ministry which are life enhancing for them while at the same time providing an effective ministry to the people in the pastoral area.

It should also ensure that priests have a workload that is manageable and sustainable for the years ahead, allowing for necessary rest. The Diocese will support the team during the coming years to help the process and to assist in all our learnings about the models of ministry that are likely to work in the future.

I wish you every success in the appointment and I look forward to working with you in the years ahead.

Yours sincerely, Ger Nash, Bishop of Ferns.
