ICA NEWS

On Wednesday July 13th we had our own Guild’s outing to Kilkenny, in all twenty-three ladies boarded the bus in Adamstown. First visit was to Jerpoint Abbey for a most interesting guided tour. We   learned a lot about this amazing Abbey and will definitely be returning. We then visited Nicholas Mosse Pottery for some light refreshments and a visit to the shop to just browse or make some purchases. We were very impressed with a table setting on display, dressed entirely in green and blue table linen and pottery, the ICA colours. Our next venture was a guided tour of historic buildings in Kilkenny city, with some ladies opting for the train tour, while the more adventurous did the walking tour. We next visited Kilkenny Castle to view the Ross Tapestries, which is a free event and then we had some free time to do some shopping. We met in Langton’s Hotel then at 6.o’clock for a sumptuous dinner which everyone enjoyed. We arrived back in Adamstown shortly after 9.00pm, tired but happy and delighted to be able to have a lovely day out with friends.

A huge ‘thank you’ to our President Ann Stafford and Secretary Mary Lawlor for all their hard work ensuring everything ran smoothly, it was greatly appreciated by all.

CELEBRATING GRANDPARENTS AND THE ELDERLY

Pope Francis established a World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, which took place for the first time in July 2021, this year it is celebrated this Sunday 24th July.

Not only are our young people called to be present in the lives of older people, but so too grandparents and elders have a mission to encourage young people on their faith journey. Our ‘domestic’ churches are always enriched by the inclusion of grandparents. In the text of his inaugural message Pope Francis expanded on this theme and assures us that he has been close to all those who have felt isolated and alone in recent months and that, even at the darkest of moments, the Lord continues to send angels to console our loneliness and to remind us that ‘He is with us always’.  Pope Francis tells us that these angels sent to console us at times have the face of our grandchildren, while at other times the face of family members, lifelong friends or those we have come to know during these trying times, when we have learned how important hugs and visits are for each of us. I would love to see parishes in every diocese across the country celebrating grand-parents, elders, not forgetting our older priests and religious, who have given lives of dedicated service to their families and communities.

A THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because her trust is not on the branch, but on her own wings. Always believe in yourself.

Always be yourself. At the end of the day, that’s all you’ve really got, when you strip everything down.

So always be yourself

A SMILE – UNGRATEFUL

There was a knock on O’Shea’s door one morning. When he opened it a very angry neighbour confronted him.

“I left my house to go for a newspaper and that dog of yours went for me!” he exclaimed.

“He what? Said O’Shea. “I’ve had that dog for ten years. I’ve fed him, walked him, looked after him…. and in all that time

he’s never once got the paper for me!

THE COLOURS OF THE ‘BOW (Pioneer Magazine)

All the colours in the world started to quarrel; each claimed that she was the best, the most important, the most useful, the favourite…….

Green said: “Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, trees, and leaves. Without me, all the animals would die. Look out over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority”

Blue interrupted: “You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is water that is the basis of life and the clouds draw this up from the blue sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace you would all be nothing but busybodies”

Yellow chuckled: “You’re all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, and the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower the whole world starts to smile.

Without me there would be no fun”

Orange started next to blow her own trumpet: “I am the colour of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious for I serve the inner need of human life. I carry all the most important vitamins. Think of carrots and pumpkins, oranges, mangoes, and papaws”

Purple rose to her full height. She was very tall and spoke with great pomp: “I am the colour of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs and bishops have always chosen me for I am a sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me – they listen and obey” And so the colours went on boasting, each convinced that they were the best.

Their quarrelling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash of brilliant white lightening, thunder rolled and boomed. Rain started to pour down relentlessly.

The colours crouched down in fear, drawing close to one another for comfort. Then Rain spoke: “You foolish colours, fighting among yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Do you not know that the Creator made you all; each for a special purpose, unique and all different? The Creator loves you all. Join hands with one another and come with me.

The Creator will stretch you across the sky in a great bow of colour, as a reminder of all this and a sign of hope for tomorrow”

We are all blessed and enriched in the many

nationalities that make up our world.

There can’t be a beautiful rainbow at all until

all the colours blend together

and work together in glorious harmony.

MY TEAM

Henry Ford’s dictum was, “coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress; working together is success”.

It is amazing what a team can achieve when no one is bothered about who gets the credit. Teamwork divides the tasks and doubles the success
