COLÁISTE ABBÁIN NEWS

Mr. Tynan retires from Coláiste Abbáin.

Tom Tynan, a beloved teacher at Coláiste Abbáin, has decided to embark on a new chapter in his life as he retires from his roles as both a Guidance Counsellor and teacher.

For the past seven years, Mr. Tynan has been a pillar of support and knowledge for countless students, offering guidance, wisdom, and a warm smile to all who walked through his door. With his passion for education and an unwavering commitment to helping young minds flourish, Mr. Tynan’s dedication to his craft has been a source of inspiration for his colleagues. His classroom was a place of intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm, fostering a love of learning that extended far beyond textbooks and exams.

But it was as a Guidance Counsellor that Tom Tynan truly shone. He possessed a unique ability to connect with his students on a personal level, recognising their individual strengths and challenges. His guidance not only helped students choose the right educational and career paths but also instilled in them the self-confidence to pursue their dreams. Tom Tynan’s retirement leaves an irreplaceable void at Coláiste Abbáin. His legacy, however, will continue to resonate in the lives of those he has touched. As the school bids farewell to this dedicated educator and compassionate mentor, they do with gratitude and fond memories. Tom Tynan’s impact on the school community is immeasurable, and his retirement marks the end of an era filled with inspiration, learning, and guidance.

Best wishes Tom, we will miss you here in Coláiste Abbain.

FROM LITTLE ACORNS!

The late Mrs Murphy formerly of Knockreigh House, campaigned for many years to have Secondary Education in Adamstown. On numerous occasions she approached the Vocational Committee but she met with a wall of resistance.

Eventually, with the support of people with influence who were of the same opinion, she was successful in her efforts.

Mr. Michael Fortune was prepared to provide a site for the new school for £40.00 provided the V.E.C. would pay the legal fees or £50.00 in the event that he should have to meet the cost. Fortunately, the V.E.C. were happy to pay the fee.

The winning contract was £900. The final cost was £1,100, and the subject of much debate at V.E.C. meetings.

The first teachers were Mr. Tom Carey and Mrs Fortune of Doononey. The new caretaker was Michael Lawlor, of the City, Oldcourt who was paid £1.00 per week.

The present Coláiste Abbáin, the successor to the old building costing €6.600,000.

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK – For Loved Ones

Lord, be good to them, and show them all your love.

Lord, be kind to them, and grant them peace above.

Lord, be merciful to them, and wipe their sins away.

Lord, be generous to them, with all my heart I pray.

Lord, be gracious to them, for good that they have done.

Lord, be gentle with them, for sufferings undergone.

Lord, may we meet again, when heaven’s crown is won.

Amen.

POPE’S INTENTION FOR NOVEMBER

We pray for the Holy Father; as he fulfils his mission, may he continue to accompany the flock entrusted to him, with the help of the Holy Spirit.

DID YOU KNOW?

In ancient Egypt, onions were an object of worship. The onion symbolized eternity to the Egyptians who buried onions along with their Pharaohs. The anatomy of the onion suggested a circle-within-a circle structure, symbolizing eternal life.

WE REMEMBER THEM

In the rising of the sun and its going down,

we remember them.

In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter,

we remember them.

In the opening of the buds and the warmth of summer,

we remember them.

In the rustling of leaves and the beauty of autumn,

we remember them.

In the beginning of the year and when it ends,

we remember them.

When we are weary and in need of strength,

we remember them.

When we are lost and sick at heart,

we remember them.

When we have joys we yearn to share,

we remember them.

So long as we live, they too shall live,

for they are now a part of us.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK – Anne  Frank

Human greatness does not lie in wealth or power, but in character and goodness. People are just people, and all people have faults and shortcomings, but all of us are born with basic goodness.
