ALLELUIA

For almost three decades, Majella Stafford has conducted Saint Abban’s Church Choir. After all these years, Majella has bowed out. We would all like to acknowledge the time, the talent and the treasure she shared with all the Liturgical Celebrations in that time. We also include in this acknowledgement  organist Ger Cullen and the dedicated members of the choir.

POPE’S INTENTION FOR SEPTEMBER

For the Cry of the  Earth

We pray that each one of us will hear and take to heart the cry of the earth and of victims of natural disasters and climactic change, and that all will undertake to personally care for the world in which we live.

ST. ABBAN’S PATRON – 1st September 2024

On Sunday last in lovely weather, we celebrated our Annual Patron with Mass  in St. Abban’s Church, celebrated by Fr. Nolan and Fr. Odhran Furlong. There was a huge attendance of people, which is a testament to the love and care we have for our deceased families and friends. The Cemetery looked beautiful with the array of flowers and plants on the graves.

A word of thanks to the Fás workers for their work in the upkeep of the cemetery grounds, and the members of the Cemetery Committee, who give their time voluntarily to keep the Cemetery looking great all the year round.

A word of thanks to Fr. Nolan, Fr. Odhran Furlong, the Choirs, singers and musicians for the beautiful music and Hymns, thanks to organist Rosaleen Power. Thanks to Traditional Musicians, the Kavanagh family for their lovely music.

The great sound system meant that whether you were inside the Church or standing beside your loved ones grave, it was possible to hear every word spoken and every hymn sung. Thanks to T.J. for facilitating the online Mass, the Eucharisic Ministers who helped in the distribution of Holy Communion, the readers, the stewards who were on parking duty, the members of the cemetery committee who looked after the collection for the continued upkeep of our Cemetery. Thanks to Cáit and Joe, amongst the many other things they do on a regular basis, for preparing the little bottles of Holy Water (over 400) which families sprinkled on their family graves following Mass. Finally a sincere thanks to all those attending who donated so generously to the Cemetery Collection – the total Patron Collection amounted to  €4080.00 – Thank you all so much. This money will be used over the year for the provision of  paths, and general  maintenance and upkeep of the cemetery,

THOUSANDS AWARDED TO WOMAN ARRESTED FOR PRAYING OUTSIDE ABORTION CLINIC.

A Christian woman in Britain was arrested after silently praying outside an abortion clinic has been awarded a £13,000 (€15,254) payout and an apology from the police.

Isabel Vaughan-Spruce issued a claim against West Midlands Police for wrongful arrests and false imprisonments, assault, battery in relation to an intrusive search of her person, and for a breach of her human rights in 2022 and 2023. Responding to the award, the Pro Life Campaign said: “This is a significant victory for Isabel Vaughan Spruce, the pro-life movement, and freedom of expression. The manner in which she was treated by the police in England was deeply regrettable. The idea that it could be a crime to engage in silent prayer is obscene. It certainly breached Article 9.1 of the ECHR, focused on thought. Since this is an absolute right, it cannot ever be ‘balanced’ against other rights. In Ireland the Safe Access Zones Bill was signed into law by Michael D. Higgins in May, but the law requires that  an operational order be signed by  Minister Stephen Donnelly. To date, he has not yet signed this operational order. In July Minister Donnelly said his department “is currently engaging with relevant stakeholders in relation to the commencement of the legislation”
